Blessing for the New Terminal

亞特蘭大機場耗資14億，剛啟用的International Terminal (Concourse F)，對我來說，祝福這個project成功，經過一番心裏的掙扎，為什麽呢？請先看05/16 (Wed)亞特蘭大的報紙：
But in May 2005, airport officials said the new terminal would be delayed until 2009 and the cost would rise from $688 million to $828 million.
Three months later, DeCosta fired the design team led by architecture firm Leo A Daly, saying its plans were “overdesigned” and “luxurious.” The design team sued the city for $60 million. The terminal opening was delayed until 2010.

這個被Airport Manager Ben DeCosta開除的Leo A Daly設計團隊（正式名稱叫TDT-Terminal Design Team），我當初就是這個團隊的一員（2003開始設計，到2005年8月團隊被開除）。事實上我是另一個建築事務所Gensler的成員，Gensler 是Design Architect ，Leo A Daly 是Architect in Record。為了設計這個案子，TDT 的42位建築師、工程師在機場附近另租了一個辦公室，工作了兩年，等於是另組了一個公司。我的工作是設計Apron Level 及Concourse 地下室的防水，Apron Level 就是機場的Ground Level，在 Concourse旁邊時就叫做Apron Level。

我們是在施工圖完成，即將送審建照的前三天被開除的，理由是 overdesigned 和 luxurious，因為我們的造價超過上述新聞中的$828 million，達到9億元。當然TDT 有責任把設計控制在預算內，但Airport Manager 在送照前三天開除設計團隊，也的確有失厚道。總之，最後這Terminal延到了2012才開張（原先是2010年），多花了5億多，what can I say?

其實財務上我的公司Gensler損失不大，整個TDT的設計費是$34 million，我們Gensler的部分是$5 million ，在被開除時已做了$4 million的工作，都拿到錢了；但花了兩年多，到頭來是被開除，心裏充滿無奈和怨氣，巴不得新的團隊Gateway Designers也出狀況，但可笑的是：其實他們並沒得罪我們！

“要為新團隊祝福”是神很清楚的感動，“這樣你才能得著真正的釋放”真的！不容易，雖然我個人上並沒被羞辱，但心中卻是有這樣的苦毒！感謝主！順服是蒙福之路，終究靠主放下這愚蠢的受害者心態！
